Message	Is call the cops when it happened. They probably would have told you there is nothing they can do, it's a civil matter etc. But if you get the officer's name he can always say yes you called the police, and he can be subpoena'd as a witness for a civil trial. Even if he didn't file a report, he can testify that yes, he saw the car was damaged and yes, he saw the construction site. Couldn't hurt. Obviously it's a moot point now, but other that you took excellent steps to protect yourself for a lawsuit if need be. "Smooth is fast."
